Eligibility Criteria for Class VI Admission

  • Residence: Bonafide resident of the district where the JNV is located.
  • Schooling: Studying in Class V (2026-27) in a recognized school (Govt./Govt-aided/recognized or NIOS ‘B’ certificate).
  • Full Academic Session: Must have studied full sessions in Class III, IV and V in recognized schools.
  • Age: Born between 01.05.2015 and 31.07.2017 (both days inclusive).
  • No repetition: Candidates who have already appeared in JNVST earlier or repeated Class V are not eligible.
  • Rural/Urban: 75% seats reserved for rural candidates (studied in rural area schools for Classes III–V).
  • Reservation: SC/ST/OBC as per central list; 27% for OBC (central list), 15% SC, 7.5% ST (national average).
  • Divyang (PwD): Reservation for Orthopedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired, Visually Handicapped as per norms (minimum 40% disability).
Important Notes:
  • Candidates claiming OBC reservation must possess a valid Central OBC certificate issued before the date of registration/examination.
  • Rural seats are allocated block-wise based on rural population.
  • At least one-third of total seats are reserved for girls (preference given to girls in tie cases).
  • Transgender candidates are included in the Boys category for reservation purposes.
  • No separate reservation for transgender candidates.
  • All candidates must have Aadhaar number or apply for enrolment before registration (as per Government norms).
  • Admission is strictly district-specific; no shifting to other JNVs is allowed.

Selection Process & Exam Pattern

  • Mode of Selection: Written test (OMR-based objective type) – JNVST 2027.
  • Date of Exam: 28 November 2026 (single phase for all JNVs).
  • Duration: 2 hours (11:30 AM to 1:30 PM). Additional 40 minutes for Divyang candidates.
  • Total Questions: 80 questions for 100 marks.
  • Sections:
    • Mental Ability & Environmental Studies (EVS): 40 questions (20+20) – 50 marks (1.25 each).
    • Arithmetic: 20 questions – 25 marks.
    • Language: 20 questions – 25 marks.
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: 14 in Mental Ability & EVS, 7 in Arithmetic, 7 in Language.
  • No Negative Marking.
  • Medium of Exam: Available in multiple regional languages (choose while applying).
  • Tie-breaking criteria: Higher marks in Mental Ability & EVS, then Arithmetic, then priority to ST > SC > OBC > General, then Girl candidate, then younger age.
